COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT - CLEAN WATER INITIATIVES

Clean Water initiatives

Our company is making a positive impact on the local communities in the Rattanakiri Province by supporting them in obtaining access to clean water.

In some remote areas where many water wells already exist, but it is unknown as to the condition of the wells, Angkor Gold Corp. has teamed up with the Cambodian Red Cross to survey these areas. These assessments provide our company with information such as the number of existing wells in the area, types of wells, functionality of the existing wells, the population in the area, and if and where new water sources are required. This invaluable information helps our company identify the needs of the local people.

Water Wells: Work Completed

Okalla

The water well below is located in a village  that we pass through every time we travel to our number one prospect Okalla.  This well was drilled last summer and is now used on a daily basis to enrich the locals lives.  Previously, these children would spend their days walking down a steep ravine and carrying water up to the village.

Dok Yong

Dok Young covers a big area and has a very large population and villagers were having to carry water from long distances away. The water well provided by Angkor Gold is located in the middle of the village and is utilized by the entire population so there is always a flurry of activity around the area.

Lumphat Health Centre

The Lumphat Health Centre is located in the Lumphat District, former capital of Rattanakiri Province and covers  a population of approximately 15,000 people. Angkor Gold Corp. is working closely with the community to improve the conditions of the health care facility thereby improving healthcare. The health centre had only one well which dried up last March 2011 during the dry season, leaving the clinic without access to a clean water source until the wet season arrived months later.
In August 2011, our company worked with a local drilling company to drill a new well (45 metres in depth) on the clinic property. The clinic now has a clean and constant source of water.
